From a life’s work to a foundation
Erkki Paasikivi, an industrial counselor born in 1917, built his life’s work in post-war Finland. He served as CEO of Oras, the faucet factory he founded in Rauma in 1945, until 1978. After that, he continued to influence the family business as chairman of the board until 1996. During his active career, Erkki traveled extensively to develop his company, and along the way, he collected a significant amount of art from around the world.
After retiring from operational duties at the faucet company, Erkki focused on creating art, designing gold and silver jewelry as well as abstract metal sculptures. He was known in Rauma as a lover of both music and visual arts, and he supported local artists in many ways. This passion led to the idea of founding a foundation.
The decision to establish the Erkki Paasikivi Foundation was made in 1986, and the foundation began its activities the following year. Later, its support expanded to include research and educational fields related to Erkki’s professional career.
